WWII, Pacific War, dead Japanese soldier, 1942, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands

Guadalcanal: 1942. The painting portrays a dead Japanese soldier. He will gradually dissolve into the environment beneath and around him; while, the prayers from the charms floating above will, hopefully, follow him into eternity. That is the ultimate his family can hope for.

As a child in the 1940s, images of these have haunted my imagination and have continued, at times, through the ensuing years.
