This painting is for Charles Edward Lashen who on Feb 19, 1945 was with the 5th Marine Division assaulting Iwo Jima. He was assigned as a machine gunner to Company H, 3rd Batallion, 26th Marines. He received an Honorable Discharge due to medical disability. He had three upper torso bullet wounds but never received a Purple Heart.
